Biomedical data science and a new life-saving medical device!

Assistant Professor Irene Ong contributed to the development of a device to detect breathing problems before standard tools like pulse oximeters and in time to potentially prevent crises that occur when patients enter respiratory distress during surgery, for example.

Dr. Ong worked with Dr. Guelay Bilen-Rosas and Dr. Humberto Rosas to take their idea of using ultrasound to detect breathing problems from concept to reality. Their startup, AyrFlo, is submitting the device for FDA approval, and hopefully bringing it to market in a few years.

Congratulations to the Dr. Ong and the AyrFlow team!
